Watch: ICC reprimands Salman Agha after bat-smashing incident in Bangladesh 2nd Test

Pakistan batter Salman Agha has been officially reprimanded by the ICC for breaching the Code of Conduct during Pakistan’s second Test against Bangladesh in Sylhet.

The incident occurred on Tuesday during the 82nd over of Pakistan’s second innings when the middle-order batter, after being dismissed, struck an advertising board with his bat while walking back to the pavilion.

According to the ICC, Salman breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment, ground equipment or fixtures during an international match.

Along with the official reprimand, one demerit point has also been added to Salman’s disciplinary record. It was his second offence in a 24-month period, taking his tally to two demerit points. His previous breach under the same article came during an ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka earlier this year.

Salman admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by ICC match referee Jeff Crowe, meaning no formal hearing was required.

The charge was laid by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Allahuddien Palekar, along with third umpire Kumar Dharmasena and fourth umpire Masudur Rahman Mukul.

The disciplinary action came during another disappointing outing for Pakistan, who suffered a 78-run defeat as Bangladesh completed a historic 2-0 Test series sweep on home soil.

Despite the defeat, Salman was one of Pakistan’s brighter performers in the second innings, scoring 71 runs in a fighting partnership with Mohammad Rizwan before his dismissal.

The loss also pushed Pakistan down to eighth place in the World Test Championship standings, having managed just one win from four matches in the current cycle.
